15 Granite Columns
Chealkylle is an interactive sculpture of white granite columns in a spiral enclosure. The columns spiral down from 3 to 2 metres high and are sited in a completely new park close to Wembley Stadium.
The installation provides a strongly interactive landscape for children to play in and for adults, at quieter times of the day to shelter in and reflect.
Personal and location specific elements of the work were developed in community workshops involving the highly diverse population of Brent; inspirational texts were elicited and later etched onto the columns in English, Urdu and Somali.
The installation and the entire new park in Brent were opened in a major community event in early summer 2013.
