the dream
Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge 2002
4 x 4 x 1 m. Silver granite and black basalt.
Trinity Hall commissioned Dan to make this work for their residences in Cambridge. The work combines a characteristic portal form (representing zones of transformation) with a black stele, evoking archaic architectural forms. The portal and lintel for the stele were carved from a single massive granite block in a quarry in Xiamen in China and transported to the UK by ship. The ideas for this work came to Archer in a dream.
